Sometimes you just need to have a Spice Girls dance party with your housemates to clear the head.
There are times when no words will suffice. There are times within intense sorrow when mere words will make provide no relief. There are moments of others’ experience of injustice and tragedy that we will never be able to comprehend. In these instances, we can offer nothing. In these instances, I pray.
Upon hearing some heart-breaking news from back home, my housemate came into the living room. People do not want to be counselled in these intial moments. They do not want to be told “It’ll all be okay”. All I could offer was the comfort of physical touch. And prayer.
There is something undeniably powerful about prayer. As I opened my mouth, words of beauty, of faith, of comfort, of hope flowed from my tounge. And they were definitely not my own words. In my own strength, experience and confidence, the best I could offer would be a few stumbled words, hoping I don’t say the wrong thing. But this was one of those moments that were completely of God. We were in the beautiful and faithful presence of the Comforter.
